Artifact #2: Storyjumper Digital Tool Inquiry

Module : 4 Artifact: Storyjumper Digital Tool Inquiry

1.)  Explain how this artifact shows growth towards becoming a TL:

For this artifact, I worked on doing a Digital Tool Inquiry whereby I embedded my learning into the tool itself. This was more time consuming that I had anticipated but it really taught me a lot about the tool and some of the issues that my students may have when they interact with this tool. I believe that my willingness to try new things, and sometimes struggle through them, means that I am uniquely situated to be a model of someone who values lifelong learning for my students, which is essential for all learners and is highlighted in my district’s mission statement. I also think that this tool provides a glimpse into the potential for collaborative technology that could be utilized in the LLC and in collaboration with teachers, to “empower student-led collaborative learning” (Leading Learning, 11). This experience also helps me realize the value of embedding “information literacy instruction in learning experiences to ensure deep understanding of content” (Leading Learning, 17).

2.)  Describe the progression of creating this artifact (attach drafts, feedback, and final project):

With this project, while I created the project within Storyjumper, it was reinforcing the skills of digital creation while I was testing the technology. I had to navigate the website thoroughly to learn all about the process and the benefits of using this digital tool. I received feedback from peers on further clarifying the wording that I used and to make it easier to read, which made me reflect on what were the most important points to include that would be helpful to Teacher Librarians or classroom teachers as they navigate this website and utilize it to its full potential. In the final draft, I clarified what I meant by the language differences encountered (i.e. Native American in the United States vs. First Nations in Canada), as well as streamlining the possible curricular links to those that might be the most relevant. I feel that I contributed quite a bit of time and energy into this project and feel confident sharing it with others wishing to explore this technology.

3.)  Explain why this artifact reflects higher level thinking (Bloom’s Taxonomy chart):

For this assignment, I was tasked with developing an understanding of a particular digital tool and sharing this information with others. Through this, I had to identify which tool would be the most useful to me as a Teacher Librarian, particularly in collaborative teaching. I also had to be able to explain its uses to my colleagues moving from Knowledge to Comprehension. I then illustrated how it could be used with Puentedura’s SAMR model, practiced using it in order to design a presentation which would describe its uses, showing the Application of my knowledge. I also worked to illustrate the benefits to students and the challenges moving me into Analysis. In order to recommend why this tech tool would be useful for teacher-librarians and feel that the presentation was the best that I could make it, I needed to further refine my work with feedback I received, moving me from Synthesis to Evaluation
